PNG vs JPG: Which File Format Is Better?
The best format depends on whether your image needs transparency, compact file size or maximum compatibility.
1. PNG supports transparency
Use PNG to keep a clean cutout without a solid background. This is useful for logos, product graphics and layered designs.
2. JPG is for flat photos
JPG does not preserve transparency. It often produces smaller files for ordinary photos, but repeated saves can add compression artifacts.
3. WEBP can also be useful
WEBP supports transparency and often compresses efficiently. Check that the software or marketplace receiving your image accepts it.
4. Pick intentionally
For cutouts choose PNG. For a white background photo intended for standard web use, JPG can be suitable.
